In our lives, there are things we involuntarily and unknowingly must do to survive on the most basic level. We must breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. We must consume drinks and food to maintain and restore energy. We must sleep to allow our body to take a break from all the functions that it coordinates in a day.
Nicholasville has many beautiful and wonderful outdoor sights to see from mid- spring through late December. All of these can be seen on a bike ride, a long walk, or even a brisk run on the various paths and trails through many parts of Nicholasville and Jessamine County. But what about the months where the weather is bitter and cold?
I would say the hardest New Year's resolution ever made is to get into shape. Gym memberships rise drastically between Christmas and just a few days past New Year's Day every year. Many of those end up being one or two visits only to be abandoned. I don't need statistics to prove the fact; just ask around the first two weeks of any given year.
What is needed in Nicholasville is a facility that promotes not only fitness, but community, interaction with others, and various activities to attract everyone. The thought that these facilities are not affordable to Nicholasville is a false statement. Many organizations support and sponsor facilities that promote health, fitness, and community activities.
Why should Nicholasville not have the pleasure of a facility that offers indoor basketball courts, indoor/outdoor swimming pools, free weights, resistance equipment, indoor running track, fitness classes, and community team activities? Many smaller communities have similar facilities that are very successful. There is no reason these same facilities shouldn't be available to the citizens of Nicholasville.
All things considered, if we seek this out as an idea and organize planning after planning committee but don't take action, it's only a waste of time and resources that could be used toward moving forward rather than sideways. A facility of this magnitude is a step toward the positive community growth the city of Nicholasville is looking to provide.
Let's take action toward making Nicholasville more attractive rather than just dreaming about it.
